What metal work costs in Grove City
No one can price metal work without seeing it, so treat these as ranges, not quotes.
Installed wrought-iron railing runs $65 to $135 per linear foot. A metal fence repair runs $150 to $350 per repair. Where you land depends on how much metal is involved, how much prep the site needs, and how much finish work the piece gets.
A short run with good access and little prep sits at the low end. A railing on a stair with awkward angles, tight access, or metal that has already been welded on before sits toward the high end.
What moves the price within the range
Three things decide it.
First, the condition of the existing metal. If it is sound and we can work with what's there, the job is shorter. If the welds have cracked in several places or corrosion has eaten into the thickness, we spend more time cutting out bad material and fitting new pieces.
Second, access. We run a MIG welding machine on site, so most railing and fence work does not need a shop visit. A piece boxed in by landscaping, or tucked against a deck or porch structure, takes longer to reach and weld. That labor is in the quote from the start.
Third, finish. After welding we grind the weld and sand the surface smooth, and on thin metal we go carefully so we don't overheat it. Heavy ironwork that is meant to look rugged needs less of this. A visible railing weld gets more time blending into the surrounding metal, and that time is priced in.

Freeze/thaw and clay soil: when the weld isn't the problem
Grove City has pronounced freeze/thaw cycling, and our soils are deep silty clay loam and prairie soil. Posts, railing footings, and gate hinge posts are anchored in ground that moves, and that movement works on the metal above it.
So when a weld cracks, we check whether the post or footing is still shifting. If it is, welding the crack only buys you a season. Fixing the footing adds to the cost, and in some cases replacing the section is the better spend than repairing it. We'll tell you which one we think it is before any work starts.
Getting a number for your job
Tell us what the piece is (railing, fence section, gate, or something custom), roughly how long it is, and what's wrong with it. Photos help. We can give you a range from that description, and we confirm a firm price once we've seen the metal.
If we open up the work and find something that changes the scope, we tell you before we go further, not on the invoice.

Our Process
-
Tell Us What's Going On
A two-minute call is enough to tell us what we're working with and what to check first.
-
On-Site Inspection
We come out, measure what's actually happening, and walk you through what we find.
-
Know the Price First
We put the fix, the timeline, and the number on paper — take your time with it.
In practice, on a job like this:
- Grind the completed weld and sand the surface smooth, taking care not to overheat thin metal.
- After welding, visually check weld completeness and dimensions, and check the finished construction's shape and tolerances.
